James Morton was runner-up in the 2012 series of The Great British Bake Off. He grew up in the Shetland Isles and learnt to bake with his granny. Currently a hospital doctor in Glasgow, James’s spare time is devoted to baking, brewing beer and writing books. His first title, Brilliant Bread, published by Ebury, received widespread critical acclaim and was awarded the 2014 Guild of Food Writers Award for Cookery Book of the Year. His second book, How Baking Works…And what to do if it doesn’t, is a mini-masterclass in baking techniques. This was followed by Brew, published by Quadrille, which shows how easy it is to make your own world-class beer at home. For his fourth title, James teamed up with is father, the broadcaster and journalist Tom Morton, to celebrate the food, landscape and traditions of his birthplace: Shetland: Cooking on the Edge of the World, published by Quadrille.
